Yen falls to around 157.5 per dollar ahead of central bank meetings

The yen weakened against the dollar in early Tokyo trading, reaching 157.54 to 157.55 yen per dollar at 8:30 a.m.

on October 27.

That was 42 sen weaker than at 5 p.m.

the previous day.

The move came as investors adjusted their positions ahead of central bank policy meetings this week in the United States, Japan and Europe.

The US Federal Reserve meets on October 27 and 28, and many market participants expect it to leave rates unchanged.

Investors are looking for clues about the timing and pace of future US rate increases, including from the Fed’s December meeting onward.

Talks in Tehran involving Saudi, Turkish and Pakistani officials aimed to ease regional tensions, but concerns that US-Iran tensions could rise again after the November 3 US midterm elections limited demand for the yen.

The yen edged higher against the euro, while the euro fell against the dollar.
