Garage Sale Trail holds its final event after 16 years
The Garage Sale Trail is holding its final event across two weekends, with the last day scheduled for November 15.
Darryl Nichols and Andrew Valder started it in Bondi in 2010, inviting people in Sydney’s Eastern Suburbs to hold second-hand sales.
It grew into a nationwide annual event, with more than 7.2 million items sold and $52 million raised for sellers.
Reusing goods can keep them out of landfill, and Greater Sydney could run out of landfill space by 2030 unless more is done to reduce waste.
The sales also bring neighbours together, with co-founder Nichols saying participants make an average of 30 new neighbourly connections in a day.
The founders say they are ready to move on, though they said someone else might take on the event’s custodianship.
