Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix shares rise after recent falls

Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix shares rose early on Oct.

16 after several sessions of sharp falls.

By 9:13 a.m.

in Seoul, Samsung was up 1.67% and SK Hynix was up 0.87%.

The two companies are major South Korean chipmakers, and their shares are part of the country’s benchmark KOSPI market.

The gains came after US stock indexes all closed higher overnight, while some chip stocks recovered from early losses.

Investors appeared to be buying shares after recent declines in artificial intelligence and chip stocks, which some saw as excessive.

Foreign investors were still net sellers of South Korean shares, including stocks in the electrical and electronics sector.

Individual and institutional investors were net buyers in that sector.

The early gains marked a pause in the recent slide, but the figures show that foreign selling continued.
