Former KBS announcer describes debt and years of odd jobs
Kim Sun-geun, a former KBS announcer in South Korea, says his family struggled financially after he left the broadcaster.
He quit after 10 years, hoping to manage financial pressure linked to an investment failure and an apartment subscription.
Freelance work dried up within three months, and he and his wife, who was raising their two daughters, faced mounting expenses.
His wife said their debt reached 89 million won, and they even sold their daughters’ gold rings.
Kim took on early-morning work such as delivery jobs, laundry deliveries and sorting packages at a logistics centre.
His wife later found work at a social welfare foundation, using a qualification she already held.
The couple say they are working through the difficulties, and no further plans were reported.

I had not quit without a plan. I had made a thorough plan in advance, but things did not go as planned.
I did every kind of work I could do in the early morning, including hanging banners at night, early-morning deliveries, laundry deliveries and sorting work at a logistics centre.
Since I was a housewife, the only loan I could use was a card loan.
