Four countries urge full resumption of Strait of Hormuz shipping

Egypt, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia and Turkey urged shipping to resume in the Strait of Hormuz.

Their foreign ministers made the call in a joint statement after meeting in Istanbul.

They said vessels should have safe and unimpeded passage through the strait, a key waterway for civilian shipping.

The ministers said the conflict involving Iran, Israel and the United States must be resolved through diplomacy and in line with the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding.

They also stressed the need to protect civilians and civilian infrastructure, including ships, from attacks.

They called for steps to prevent further escalation in the region.
