Cheongju creates 3-km urban forest along SK Road
Cheongju has created a 3-km urban forest along SK Road in Oebuk-dong, in the city’s Heungdeok District.
The green space runs along both sides of an eight-lane road.
About 100,000 trees and other plants were planted, including zelkova trees, alongside green strips and small parks.
The city expects the forest to cut annual fine dust by 3.6 tonnes and greenhouse gas emissions by 800 tonnes.
The project aims to improve local air quality in an area crossed by a major road.
SK Hynix provided 5.86 billion won for the project, which was overseen by the Chungbuk Community Chest of Korea.
