Punjab reaches 289 for six against Hyderabad on Ranji Trophy opening day

Punjab made 289 for six on the opening day of its Ranji Trophy match against Hyderabad at Gymkhana Ground.

Prabhsimran Singh top-scored with 81, while Salil Arora and Ramandeep Singh added half-centuries.

Hyderabad’s bowlers took wickets with pace rather than spin, despite expectations that the pitch would turn.

Their best return came from Rakshann Readdi, who dismissed two batters, including Prabhsimran.

The teams are competing in Elite Group B, where Hyderabad and Punjab entered the match near the top after strong starts to the season.

Punjab’s innings is still under way, with Salil and Emanjot Singh batting, so Hyderabad will try to take the remaining wickets when play resumes.

Even we’re okay with a spinning track. I don’t believe in playing on flat tracks. We believe that there should be a result (to the contest)

The best part is that most of our batters are taking responsibility. Anybody getting set is trying to finish the game. If you’re taking responsibility and can build partnerships, then obviously you can score big runs
