Spain sells €6.42 billion in Treasury bills at higher yields

Spain’s Treasury sold €6.42 billion in short-term bills at an auction on Tuesday.

The bills mature in six or 12 months, and investors sought €11.07 billion in total, more than the amount sold.

Six-month bills offered a 2.845% yield, up from 2.798% at the previous auction and the highest since November 2024.

Twelve-month bills offered a 3.068% yield, up from 3.026% and the highest since July 2024.

Higher yields mean investors receive more interest for lending money to the government.

Households have increased their holdings of Treasury bills for six months in a row, reaching €22.509 billion in August.

The Treasury plans another auction on Thursday, offering medium- and long-term government debt worth between €4.75 billion and €6.25 billion.
