Infantino says he has overwhelming support to remain FIFA president
FIFA president Gianni Infantino says he has overwhelming support from football organisations around the world.
He made the claim in an interview in Azerbaijan, where FIFA is holding its first Under-15 World Cup.
The dispute centers on a plan to sell some commercial rights to FIFA competitions to a private investment company, which Infantino cancelled days after proposing it.
UEFA and other regional football bodies criticised the plan, and UEFA has asked FIFA to provide key documents by 2 November.
Infantino apologised to the FIFA Council for how the project was communicated, but has not given a clear date for handing over the documents.
He says he has no reason to resign and argues that FIFA should respect the majority view.
His re-election for a fourth term next year appears likely, while he says FIFA needs more dialogue with UEFA to repair their strained relationship.
