Shubman Gill and Shafali Verma win ICC monthly awards for September

India's Shubman Gill and Shafali Verma won the ICC's September awards for men's and women's Player of the Month.

Gill, captain of India's men's team, was recognised for his performances against the West Indies in one-day internationals.

His fifth award equals the record held by West Indies captain Hayley Matthews.

Gill scored 110 in the first match and 223 in the second, helping India chase a target of 406.

Verma earned her second monthly award for her performances with bat and ball.

She scored 360 runs and took six wickets in September, helping India win the Women's Asia Cup and the Asian Games.

Her performances helped India claim two titles, including its eighth Asia Cup crown and the Asian Games gold medal; the awards recognise both players' contributions that month.
