Rams cornerback Jaylen Watson out for season after shoulder injury

Rams cornerback Jaylen Watson will miss the rest of the season after aggravating a shoulder injury in the team's Week 8 win over the Los Angeles Chargers.

Coach Sean McVay said Wednesday that Watson needs surgery because continuing to play could cause further damage.

Watson dislocated the shoulder in Week 3 and missed the next game, but he played in seven games this season, recording an interception and 24 tackles.

His absence is a setback for the Rams' defense, as he had allowed a 48.5% completion rate on passes targeted at his coverage, among the lowest for players with at least 30 targets.

The Rams have opened practice windows for Myles Garrett and Terrance Ferguson, who are returning from injured reserve; running back Ronnie Rivers has also entered the return window.

Garrett and Ferguson will take part in limited practice, and the team will assess how they respond before deciding on their return to play.
