Rogers free cash flow rises as revenue stays nearly flat
Rogers Communications reported $1.3 billion in third-quarter free cash flow, up 65% from a year earlier.
The Toronto-based telecom and media company’s revenue was nearly flat, with the two accounts putting its year-on-year increase at 1% and 2%.
Rogers added 17,000 new postpaid mobile customers, far fewer than the 111,000 added in the same quarter last year.
The company said it focused on higher-value customers rather than pursuing subscriber numbers, while analysts also pointed to flat Canadian population growth.
Rogers now owns all of Maple Leaf Sports and Entertainment after completing its purchase of the remaining 25% stake earlier this month.
Its reported net income fell sharply compared with last year, when it recorded a $5-billion non-cash gain tied to its sports holdings.
The company still plans to sell a minority stake in its sports holdings in the first half of 2027, but gave no further details.
Rogers Communications reported a third-quarter profit attributable to shareholders of $482 million.
Revenue rose 2 per cent from a year earlier to $5.44 billion.
The profit was 88 cents per diluted share for the quarter ended Sept. 30.
Adjusted earnings were $1.29 per diluted share, down from $1.37 a year earlier.
Earlier in October, Rogers completed its purchase of the remaining 25 per cent stake in Maple Leaf Sports and Entertainment.
