Daiki Goto sets Japanese high school 400m record of 45.33 seconds

Seventeen-year-old Daiki Goto ran 45.33 seconds in the 400 metres at the Ekopa Track Games in Shizuoka, Japan.

Goto, a second-year student at Rakunan High School in Kyoto, was competing as an open entrant, so his time counted but he was not placed in the race results.

His run beat the Japanese high school record of 45.47 seconds, set by Yuzo Kanemaru in 2005.

Goto is best known for the 400-metre hurdles, where he already holds the high school record and has won major medals.

The new time is also the fastest under-18 mark in the world this season, according to the reports.

It adds a second individual high school record to Goto’s name and shows his strength beyond his main event.

The sources do not say what race he will compete in next.
