Antonelli could clinch F1 title at U.S. Grand Prix
Kimi Antonelli leads the 2026 Formula 1 drivers’ standings with six races remaining.
The Mercedes driver has 340 points, 102 ahead of teammate George Russell, while Lewis Hamilton, Max Verstappen, Charles Leclerc and Lando Norris are also still in contention.
Antonelli could clinch the title at the U.S. Grand Prix in Austin, Texas, but he would need to outscore Russell by 23 points and limit how much the other challengers gain.
That would require a poor result for his rivals, so the account says Mexico City or São Paulo is a more realistic place for him to seal the championship.
The remaining races offer a maximum of 150 points, which is why Antonelli’s lead gives him a strong position.
If the Qatar and Abu Dhabi races are cancelled without replacements, only four races would remain and no driver could catch him mathematically.
Antonelli says the title opportunity will not change his approach to trying to win the championship.
Kimi Antonelli could secure his first Formula 1 drivers’ championship at the United States Grand Prix in Austin.
He leads the standings with 340 points, ahead of Mercedes team-mate George Russell on 238 and Ferrari’s Lewis Hamilton on 229.
Motorsport.com says Antonelli must win in Austin, with Russell finishing ninth or lower and Hamilton fifth or lower, to clinch the title.
Autoblog describes other mathematical conditions, including a 23-point gain over Russell, and says the title could be decided later if the Austin results do not suffice.
If crowned at 20 years and 61 days, Antonelli would become the youngest F1 world champion and Italy’s first champion in 73 years.

I’d be very happy for him. He’s had an incredible year, and there’s the old phrase that records are there to be broken. He still has a lot of years ahead of him to do so.
I cannot change my approach to trying to win the F1 drivers’ championship
