South Korea’s foreign minister holds talks with EU, UK, India and Mexico

South Korean Foreign Minister Cho Hyun met counterparts from four partners during a G20 foreign ministers’ meeting in Atlanta.

He held talks with officials from the European Union, the United Kingdom, India and Mexico.

With the EU, he discussed building security and defence ties in areas including cyber and space, while also reviewing outcomes of a June summit.

Talks with the UK covered defence and artificial intelligence, and both sides agreed to work together on major international issues as each prepares to chair the G20 in 2027 and 2028.

Cho and India’s foreign minister reviewed progress on projects agreed during South Korean President Lee Jae Myung’s April visit to India.

With Mexico, Cho agreed to advance follow-up to Lee’s September visit, including bringing an updated investment protection agreement into force.

South Korea plans to send an AI and space delegation to Mexico this year, and Cho proposed holding a bilateral economic and science meeting in Seoul early next year.
