Oil supply disruptions keep prices above $100 a barrel

Oil prices are still above $100 a barrel as war in the Middle East disrupts supply.

The conflict between the United States and Iran has entered its eighth month, and the International Energy Agency says Gulf oil flows have been affected.

The agency expects global oil production this year to be 5.7 million barrels a day lower than it forecast earlier.

It says stalled US-Iran talks are delaying a return to normal supply levels until next year.

Global oil inventories fell by 95 million barrels in August, and the agency says countries have already withdrawn about 325 million barrels from emergency reserves.

Refinery output is also down, with losses contributing to record refining margins in the Atlantic basin in August.

The agency expects oil demand to grow, adding pressure to a market where supply remains tight.
