Princess Leonor honours Spain’s fishing communities during Llanes visit
Spain’s Princess Leonor praised fishing communities across the country during a visit to Llanes, in Asturias, on Saturday.
The visit marked the award of Asturias’s 2026 Exemplary Town distinction to the Santa Ana Fishermen’s Guild.
The guild has roots dating to around 1350 and is one of Spain’s oldest fishing associations.
The award recognises its work in traditional fishing, sustainability and keeping maritime culture alive.
During the visit, the royal family saw local music and crafts, watched anchovy preparation and visited a fishing boat and the fish market.
Leonor spoke about the sacrifice of people in the fishing trade and paid tribute to the wider profession, not only Llanes’s fishers.
