Mexico’s retired lawmakers seek restoration of monthly financial support
Retired employees protested outside Mexico’s Chamber of Deputies in San Lázaro on November 4, seeking the return of a monthly financial payment.
The chamber ended the payment for 535 unionized retirees in April 2026 and offered a final payment, which 182 retirees accepted.
The support was 11,992 pesos a month.
Chamber president Raúl Bolaños-Cacho Cué said he and other officials had received the retirees’ written requests and were not previously aware of the situation.
Officials will review whether funds can be included in next year’s chamber budget and discuss possible solutions with the retirees.
The two sides agreed to meet again on November 12.

What people are saying
We have received the petition from the retirees of the Chamber of Deputies; the president of the Administration Committee, deputy Fernando Castro Trenti, and the Chamber’s secretary general were present, and we agreed to meet again next Thursday at 12 noon, after we review the entire petition they delivered to us today.
Fernando and I did not know what their situation was.
That is what we are only now going to study.
