Russian project head and companions leave Montenegro after deportation

Montenegro detained Mikhail Zvinchuk, his wife and three associates, then ordered them to leave the country.

Zvinchuk said they had sought permission to film at a monastery and that officials questioned whether they were recruiting people for Russia’s war in Ukraine.

Montenegro’s police cited national and internal security concerns.

The group was on its way to Russia, but Zvinchuk said authorities kept their equipment.
