Howe and Nagelsmann emerge as contenders if Manchester United sack Carrick
Michael Carrick’s position at Manchester United is under serious threat after the club’s poor start to the season.
He has held talks about his future and left the club’s training ground on Monday, but he has not been dismissed.
Eddie Howe and Julian Nagelsmann are among the leading candidates if United decide to replace him.
Howe is available after leaving Newcastle, and he is open to taking the job; Nagelsmann is also available after leaving his role as Germany head coach.
Aston Villa manager Unai Emery is admired by United, but his contract could make a move more difficult.
The club has changed permanent manager or head coach seven times since Alex Ferguson left in 2013.
United must decide whether to sack Carrick and who could take over; no appointment has been announced.
