Jio explores technology-for-equity talks with Comcast and Charter
Jio Platforms has discussed licensing its wireless broadband technology to US companies Comcast and Charter Communications in exchange for possible stakes in their businesses.
The talks are part of Jio's plans to expand internationally with technology developed by the Indian company, which is controlled by Reliance Industries.
The system uses unlicensed Wi-Fi frequencies and transmitters on towers or rooftops to deliver internet without cables running to homes.
Jio says it is seeking 10 to 15 partners around the world for the technology.
Separate talks with South Africa's MTN Group broke down after the companies could not agree on valuation and licensing issues.
No deal timetable has been set with any of the companies Jio has approached.
