Mexico cancels tender for part of Querétaro-Saltillo passenger rail line
Mexico’s rail agency canceled a tender for the design and construction of 82 km of the Querétaro-Saltillo passenger rail line.
The canceled section runs between San Miguel de Allende and Villa de Reyes, and the work was estimated to cost nearly 26 billion pesos.
A technical review led to a phased construction plan for part of the route between San Miguel de Allende and the area near San Luis Potosí Industrial station.
The first phase will build one track, with passing sidings, instead of the double track initially planned.
The agency says the final project will still have two tracks, but the second will be built later as demand and budgets require.
The change affects construction timing, not the project’s final scope, and the first phase will preserve space and structures for the later track.
The agency canceled the tender to make the required adjustments and says the revised plan is intended to manage public funds properly; it has not said when a new tender will be issued.
Mexico’s ATTRAPI canceled a tender for the design and construction of an 82-kilometer section of the Querétaro-Saltillo passenger rail line.
The agency said a technical adjustment would allow the project to be built progressively, starting with a single track and strategically placed passing sidings.
The final railway configuration remains double track, with the second track planned for later as operating needs and budget conditions require.
The canceled work had an estimated investment of nearly 26 billion pesos.
Companies interested in the tender included ICA, China Railway International Group, GAMI and Constructora de Proyectos Viales de México.

What people are saying
In a first stage, a single track with strategically located passing sidings will be built between San Miguel de Allende and San Luis Potosí Industrial, and double track will be maintained near the auxiliary buildings.
The adjustment does not change the scope of the project, but its progressivity.
