Sberbank Online adds travel eSIM for mobile data in more than 100 countries
Sberbank has added a travel eSIM option to its Sberbank Online app for people travelling outside Russia.
An eSIM is a digital SIM that can connect a compatible smartphone to mobile internet without using traditional roaming.
The prepaid data packages are available in more than 100 countries, according to the bank.
Users choose their destination and a data package in the app, pay for it and install the eSIM through their phone settings.
The eSIM is mainly for mobile internet, including messaging and social media, and may not come with its own phone number.
A physical SIM can remain in the phone and may still handle calls and text messages, depending on the user’s plan and device settings.
The service offers another way to stay online abroad, though the available features depend on the chosen package and phone.
