Kamlesh Sawant recalls Nana Patekar story about his film fee

Actor Kamlesh Sawant recalled a story about Nana Patekar’s fee in an interview, while expressing grief over Patekar’s death.

Sawant, known for playing Inspector Gaitonde in Drishyam, said he had heard Patekar asked for one rupee more than Amitabh Bachchan to act with him.

Sawant said he was not sure the fee story was true; he recalled the claim as one crore rupees and one rupee for Patekar, compared with one crore for Bachchan.

He also said Patekar helped bring greater attention to dialogue delivery in Hindi films, and that audiences at single-screen theatres watched his films repeatedly.

Patekar’s NAAM Foundation helped address water shortages in Sawant’s village, Koloshi Varchivadi, in Maharashtra, Sawant said.

His comments remember both Patekar’s impact on cinema and his social work.
