World Economic Forum may choose Christine Lagarde as president in November

The World Economic Forum may choose Christine Lagarde as its next president at a board meeting on November 2.

Lagarde is currently president of the European Central Bank, which sets monetary policy for the eurozone.

The WEF board could instead set a date for a vote, and no final decision has been made.

Lagarde's eight-year ECB term is due to end in October 2027, but an early departure could open the ECB presidency sooner.

That could allow European Union leaders to make appointments to several senior ECB posts before France's spring 2027 presidential election.

The board's November meeting is the next step, and Lagarde could be named president-elect ahead of the WEF's annual meeting in Davos in January.
