Spain sets electronic invoicing deadlines amid concerns over overlapping rules
Spain is moving ahead with a new electronic invoicing requirement under its Crea y Crece law.
Companies with annual revenue above €8 million must comply from 6 October 2027, while the requirement applies to other businesses from October 2028.
The system will operate alongside existing tools and rules, including SII, VeriFactu and the public-sector invoicing platform FACE.
Its aim is to track invoices and actual payment dates to help tackle late payments and improve liquidity.
Businesses and tax specialists warn that overlapping reporting duties could add administrative burdens rather than simplify processes.
Suppliers to public bodies that operate commercially may face several systems at once, and the planned deadlines set out when businesses must prepare.
Spain will require electronic invoicing from companies with annual turnover above €8 million from 6 October 2027.
The requirement will apply to the rest of the business sector from October 2028.
The system is intended to monitor invoice status and require the effective date of payment to tackle late commercial payments and provide liquidity.
