Ugandan woman arrested with 87 cocaine wraps at Lagos airport
Nigeria’s drug agency arrested a 34-year-old Ugandan woman at Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos on 3 November.
Officers found 87 cocaine wraps weighing 1.15 kilograms strapped around her pelvic region and hidden beneath two layers of underwear.
The NDLEA said officers became suspicious during passenger screening and found the drugs during a private search.
She told investigators she had come to collect the cocaine for a friend in Uganda after travelling to Lagos with a church group for a prayer session.
She said the friend connected her with someone in Nigeria who handed over the drugs, and that she expected at least $1,000 for delivering them.
The arrest highlights attempts to smuggle cocaine out of Nigeria, which the agency has linked to the country’s role as a transit hub.
The NDLEA also reported separate seizures at the airport, including 750,000 opioid tablets and cannabis concealed in sofas; no next steps in the woman’s case were provided.
