EPFO extends September PF filing deadline to October 31

EPFO has extended the September filing deadline for employers in India from October 15 to October 31, 2026.

The deadline covers the monthly electronic return, which lists employee wages and contributions to provident fund, pension and insurance schemes, as well as the related contribution payments.

The extension follows a wage ceiling increase from Rs 15,000 to Rs 25,000 a month, effective September 17.

For September calculations, employers must account for the earlier ceiling from September 1 to 16 and the revised ceiling from September 17 to 30, following the applicable rules for each employee.

Employers still need to check their payroll and contributions and submit accurate records by the new deadline; the extra time does not remove their compliance duties.

Employees can check their provident fund passbooks and contribution records to see whether credited amounts match their salaries and applicable rules.
