Italian companies seek more office time as remote-work rules shift
Several Italian companies are trying to bring employees back to the office after years of remote work, prompting disputes with unions.
Capgemini, Deloitte and Adecco have reached agreements, while talks remain open at Coop Alleanza 3.0 and Novomatic Italia.
Under Deloitte's deal, about 15,000 employees will have to work in offices or at client sites at least two or three days a week from December, with some exceptions.
The wider trend is mixed: 14% of large organisations expanded remote work in 2026, compared with 8% that reduced it.
Italy had 3.56 million remote workers, with numbers rising at large companies but falling at small and medium-sized firms.
The negotiations matter because changes to remote-work rules affect employees' flexibility, travel costs and family arrangements, and unions and companies still have talks ahead at the two firms where no agreement has been reached.
