Jokowi Calls Gibran’s Diploma Dispute a Political Operation

Joko Widodo called the dispute over Vice-President Gibran Rakabuming Raka’s diploma a political operation.

Willem Frans Ansanay, head of the Jokowi volunteer group Bara JP, said he agreed with the former president.

Ansanay alleged the dispute was aimed at weakening Gibran ahead of Indonesia’s 2029 election.

He linked it to earlier controversy over Jokowi’s own diploma, which he said had later moved into legal proceedings.

Ansanay also said that after a Constitutional Court effort failed, the issue could be taken to parliament; this was his claim, not a confirmed next step.

His wider allegation was that the disputes could be part of efforts to block political figures from the 2029 race.

Jokowi had said there were people using the diploma controversy for political purposes, but the claims about its targets and goals were made by Ansanay.
