Delhi plans PPP redevelopment of 17 slum settlements
Delhi has started planning the redevelopment of 17 slum settlements in Seelampur, Sultanpuri and Lajpat Nagar.
The settlements contain 4,870 shanties, which the government plans to replace with three high-rise residential colonies.
Under the new policy, private developers would build homes for eligible residents in return for rights to develop commercially valuable parts of the land.
This is a shift from the 2015 approach, when the government was the main agency responsible for redevelopment.
The Delhi Urban Shelter Improvement Board will hire a private agency to assess whether the projects are viable and prepare initial plans; the study is expected to take four months.
After that, the government will continue planning and work on selecting developers for the projects.
