Sony cancels promised Android 17 update for Xperia 10 VI

Sony cancels promised Android 17 update for Xperia 10 VI

Sony has canceled the Android 17 update for the Xperia 10 VI, a mid-range phone released in 2024.

At launch, Sony promised the phone three Android operating system upgrades, which meant Android 17 was expected to be its final major update.

The company says the phone’s storage configuration prevents an update experience it considers adequate, but it has not explained the technical details.

Sony acknowledged that the decision falls short of its original promise and apologized.

Security updates will continue for four years from launch, as previously promised.

Sony says the issue affects only the Xperia 10 VI, and other Xperia phones due to receive Android 17 are not affected.

Users of those other models can still expect their planned Android 17 updates, while Xperia 10 VI owners will not receive the new version.
