Melham waits as Melbourne Cup field changes
Jockey Jamie Melham is waiting to see if she can ride in Tuesday’s Melbourne Cup in Australia.
She is on standby for Future History, which is 25th in the order of entry for a race with 24 places.
Future History needs another horse to withdraw to get a start.
Saint George, a leading contender trained by Ciaron Maher, was scratched after failing a mandatory pre-race scan and will not race again this spring.
The scratching reshuffled the field, with Bendigo Cup winner So You Are moving into a place and Hopewell Rock guaranteed a start.
The scans are part of measures introduced after six horses died in the race between 2013 and 2020.
The field will be finalised Saturday night, when the barrier draw will also take place at Flemington.
