China’s diesel exports surge 262% as global supplies tighten

China sharply increased its refined fuel exports in September as global supplies tightened.

The country shipped 7.16 million tonnes of refined petroleum products, up 39.4% from a year earlier.

Diesel exports rose 262.3% to 1.85 million tonnes, their highest level since February 2023.

Supply shortages have grown as production fell in the Middle East and Russia amid the war involving Iran and other conflicts.

China had restricted exports of diesel, gasoline and jet fuel in March to protect domestic supplies, then eased those limits in July.

Exports rose even as the nine-month total fell, with refined fuel shipments down 3.7% from the same period last year; the figures show no further policy changes.
