Datafolha poll finds 51% favor ending presidential re-election

A Datafolha poll found that 51% of Brazilians favor ending re-election for presidents and governors.

The current rule allows four-year terms with one re-election, a model preferred by 46% of respondents.

Among those favoring a single term, 30% want four years and 21% want five years.

Adding support for both four-year options, 76% back keeping the current term length.

Views differ among voters: 59% of Lula voters prefer the current rule, compared with 37% of Flávio Bolsonaro voters.

The debate gained momentum after Flávio proposed a constitutional amendment to end re-election, and said the ban should apply to him if elected.

The poll interviewed 2,520 people in 153 Brazilian municipalities on October 13 and 14, with a margin of error of two percentage points.
