ASPI Warns QRIS Merchants Used for Online Gambling Could Be Blocked
Indonesia’s payment systems association, ASPI, says it will disable QRIS payment tools used for online gambling.
QRIS is a system for making payments by scanning a code, and ASPI says it is meant to support legitimate economic activity.
If there is evidence a merchant’s QRIS service was misused for gambling, ASPI says it will remove the service and block the linked account.
The warning comes as online gambling operators have shifted how they collect deposits.
In 2025, QRIS accounted for 78.5% of deposit transactions by frequency, or 305.35 million transactions worth Rp19.35 trillion.
In the first quarter of 2026, its share rose to 88.6% by transaction frequency, while bank transfers accounted for 11.4%.
ASPI says it will coordinate action where evidence is found and urge its members to avoid prohibited uses.
ASPI chairman Santoso said QRIS payment facilities used by merchants for online gambling would be disabled and the merchants’ accounts could be blocked.
He said ASPI would act if there was evidence of misuse and would coordinate with relevant parties.
Santoso said QRIS is intended to support the economy and customer transactions, not online gambling.
PPATK data cited in the article showed QRIS accounted for 78.5% of online-gambling deposit transactions in 2025.
That share rose to 88.6% in the first quarter of 2026.

What people are saying
