Colton Herta remains one point short of an F1 superlicence
Colton Herta is still one point short of an F1 superlicence, despite driving more than 100 kilometres in practice at the Mexico Grand Prix.
The licence is required for a driver to compete in Formula 1, and the FIA requires at least 40 qualifying points.
Herta has 35 points from IndyCar and four from F1 practice sessions, for a total of 39.
The uncertainty came from his 2025 IndyCar ranking: an earlier FIA assessment had him sixth, but a later review placed him seventh, which earns fewer points.
Cadillac can give Herta another F1 practice outing at the Sao Paulo Grand Prix or the Las Vegas weekend to earn the point he needs.
Cadillac has said it intends to give him more practice opportunities, but the FIA says he does not yet qualify.
Colton Herta remains one point short of the 40 required for a Formula 1 superlicence, according to the FIA.
An error in IndyCar’s published 2025 standings meant Herta received four points for seventh place rather than six for sixth.
Herta completed more than 100 kilometres in Mexico City Grand Prix practice, but that outing did not bring his total to 40.
He has 39 points: 35 from IndyCar results and four from Formula 1 practice appearances.
Cadillac could give Herta another practice outing at the Sao Paulo or Las Vegas Grands Prix to help him meet the threshold.
