Russia’s chief mufti explains guidance on keeping dogs at home

Russia’s chief mufti, Talгat Tajуддин, explained Islamic traditions on keeping animals at home.

He said Muslims should not keep dogs inside the house.

He cited a religious tradition that dogs in a home prevent angels from entering, and said the home may lose its blessing.

A dog may be kept in a yard for security, provided sanitation rules are followed.

Tajуддин said livestock may be kept and people should treat cats with mercy.

He added that keeping pets can help teach children mercy and compassion for living creatures.
