BBVA México aims to lead banking’s shift to artificial intelligence

BBVA México wants to lead the banking industry’s shift to artificial intelligence under its new chief executive, José Luis Elechiguerra.

The bank says it previously led the sector’s move to digital services across its products and channels.

It plans to use AI to improve customer service and internal processes, while protecting customer data and its systems.

BBVA Mexico’s chairman, Eduardo Osuna, said Mexico’s economy is showing signs of recovery, including in consumer spending and public and private investment.

Those trends are increasing demand for loans, but the bank’s leaders said the economy will grow below its potential this year and next; Osuna expects 2027 to be better.

BBVA México earned 84.713 billion pesos in January–September 2026, down 1.5% from the same period in 2025.
