Fire in Konstanz apartment contained without injuries

A fire broke out in an apartment in Konstanz's old town on Tuesday evening.

The blaze was in a half-timbered building on Bodanstraße, near Bodanplatz, in southern Germany.

Firefighters stopped it spreading to the roof and nearby buildings, but flames had entered the walls and ceilings.

Crews opened parts of the roof, floors and walls to check for hidden hot spots.

Three nearby buildings were evacuated, and no one was found in the burning apartment; nobody was injured.

The four-hour operation involved about 70 firefighters, and the affected apartment cannot be lived in, so residents were given temporary shelter.

The cause of the fire remains unclear, and the sources give no further update on the investigation.
