WWT Championship marks 20 years of PGA Tour golf in Mexico

The WWT Championship holds its 20th edition from Nov.

5 to 8 at El Cardonal at Diamante in Los Cabos, Mexico.

The course was designed by Tiger Woods, and the tournament began in 2007 in Mayakoba, Riviera Maya.

It was the first PGA Tour event held in Mexico, helping open the way for more high-level golf in the country.

Since then, the event has awarded $118.4 million in prize money and contributed $4.3 million to charitable causes.

Mexico now hosts two PGA Tour events and one LPGA Tour event each year, with the WWT Championship among the tournaments credited with building that presence.

The event’s 20th edition has a $6 million prize purse, with $1.08 million going to the winner.

World Wide Technology has held the tournament’s naming rights since 2021, with the agreement set to run at least through 2027.
