Court limits attendance for Jokowi testimony in Roy Suryo case

Former Indonesian president Joko Widodo is due to testify in two hearings on 5 November at East Jakarta District Court.

The case involves defendants Roy Suryo and Tifauzia Tyassuma, known as Doctor Tifa, who face allegations concerning a fake diploma.

The courtroom will admit no more than 80 visitors because of its limited capacity.

The court says supporters of either side and members of the public may attend, without preference for one group.

Police are preparing security in three areas: inside the courtroom, around the court building and outside it.

Officers are also arranging separate parking areas to reduce the risk of clashes between supporters.

The court says it will remain neutral, with prosecutors presenting their case and the defendants' lawyers making their defence.

The hearing is open to the public, we do not discriminate, all sides may watch, the public in general may watch. If the capacity is 80, it should not be more than that, so people are not uncomfortable.

We have to anticipate the crowds from the two sides. So we have prepared parking areas for the pro-Jokowi side and for Roy Suryo or Doctor Tifa.
