Investors sell bonds issued by Turkish energy companies

Investors have sold bonds issued by several Turkish energy companies over the past 10 days, pushing prices down.

The selloff has focused especially on Aydem Enerji and GDZ Elektrik, whose bonds trade on Euronext Dublin in Ireland.

GDZ Elektrik’s bond price fell by $15 over the period, while its yield rose to 19.47%; Aydem’s yield reached 13.46%.

Aydem’s electricity distribution subsidiary, ADM Elektrik Dağıtım, also saw its bond sold, with its yield rising to 14.49%.

The price drops and rising yields signal pressure in the companies’ bond markets, though experts quoted in the story said they could not explain the selling for companies that did not fit the fund-related reasons they considered.

Zorlu Enerji may be unable to make a bond payment, as it holds talks with banks over its debt; its bond yield approached 38%.
