South Korea's Lee Calls for Stronger Prevention of Violent Crime

South Korean President Lee Jae-myung addressed rising public concern over violent crime at a government meeting in Seoul on October 23.

He called for a stronger response to violent crime, following several recent cases, including a knife attack in Incheon and killings involving family or former partners.

Lee said victims of relationship-related crimes can remain at risk even after warning authorities.

He argued that the government should move beyond responding after crimes occur and build systems to identify danger earlier.

Officials are to examine past cases and use the findings to prevent similar crimes and better protect the public.

Lee described a government-wide action plan, discussed at the meeting, as a starting point for making people feel safer in daily life.
