Guangxi startup contest highlights projects led by migrant workers

A startup competition for migrant workers in Guangxi, southern China, drew 279 projects.

After several rounds, four projects, one from each category, advanced to a final contest, where four different projects received top awards.

The projects included traditional bamboo and rattan crafts, flavored squid products, adhesive technology for plywood and ceramic products.

A separate showcase in Nanning presented 38 migrant-worker ventures and eight employment brands.

The ventures span farming, manufacturing and services, and their organizers say they have together supported 89,000 employment instances.

Examples include a business built around Guangxi kumquats and a farm that has created more than 1,000 rural jobs.

The showcase is intended to help entrepreneurs display their work, connect with resources and develop their brands.
