Dutch cabinet delays new Box 3 tax by a year, to 2029

The Dutch cabinet has delayed a new Box 3 tax until 2029, one year later than planned.

Box 3 is the part of the Dutch tax system covered by the planned tax on gains from wealth.

The transition to the new system is expected to cost about €21 billion through 2040, while only a few billion euros are covered.

The Council of State and the Dutch tax authority have warned of problems putting the change into practice.

The coalition is pressing ahead despite those concerns.

Parliament is due to decide next week.
