Breda cancels 11 November pub crawl over crowd concerns

The organisers of Breda’s 11 November pub crawl have cancelled this year’s event after talks with the city.

The crawl was planned for Breda, in the Netherlands, as part of the celebrations marking the start of the carnival season.

The city said a planned pub crawl could make crowd control harder and increase pressure on the city centre.

It could not formally ban the event because no permit had been requested, so the organisers chose to cancel it.

The crawl has taken place since 2022, with dozens of cafes involved each year, and preparations for this edition were already under way.

The city is trying to spread visitors across Breda by using two stages at Grote Markt instead of one, along with measures such as closing streets and directing crowds along different routes.

The city expects large crowds because the 11 November celebrations have grown into a major event, and it urged people not to come to the centre last year.
