Roof collapses at Banco del Bienestar branch in Jerez; no injuries reported

A roof collapsed at a Banco del Bienestar branch in Jerez, in Mexico's Zacatecas state, on Monday, October 19.

The bank said no one was injured, as staff had evacuated and the branch was not serving customers.

It had been closed to the public for about a week and a half because of serious damp problems and signs it might collapse.

The collapse happened during maintenance work on the building.

Authorities closed nearby streets because more material could fall, and emergency crews removed debris.

Specialists are assessing the building's structure so authorities can issue a safety finding.

The bank said it will follow the authorities' recommendations, with safety as its priority.
