Formlabs Launches $699 Resin 3D Printer for Home Use

Formlabs has launched the Form Studio 1, a resin-based 3D printer aimed at consumers.

It costs $699, making it the company’s most affordable printer to date.

Resin printers use light to harden liquid resin into solid plastic, but resin can be unsafe to touch and its fumes can be harmful.

Formlabs says its branded Alpha resins have UL Greenguard Gold certification for low emissions and give off little odor.

A separate wash-and-cure unit costs about $200 and helps clean and harden finished prints.

The printer is now available to order, and Formlabs says it can also use third-party resins, though it does not recommend some potentially toxic options.
