Atlético-MG is set to face Boca Juniors in the Copa Sudamericana final

Atlético-MG is set to face Boca Juniors in the Copa Sudamericana final, according to one account of the matchup.

The Brazilian club would be the seventh Brazilian team to meet Boca in a final.

Atlético last won the Copa Libertadores in 2013, but its 2025 Sudamericana final against Lanús ended in a penalty-shootout defeat after a 0-0 draw.

Brazilian clubs have lost the last four Sudamericana finals, dating back to 2022, after Athletico beat Bragantino in the all-Brazilian 2021 final.

That run contrasts with Brazilian teams winning seven straight Copa Libertadores titles, according to the account.

The accounts differ on whether Atlético had already reached the final: one describes the Boca matchup, while another says Atlético still had a semifinal second leg against Uruguay’s Montevideo City Torque to play after winning the first leg 3-0.
